The Garmin Approach R50 portable golf launch monitor and simulator combines this experience with the latest tech for a luxury golf assistant that you can play with nearly anywhere. It not only helps you develop your skills at home with myriad tracking tools and metrics, but it also allows virtual play on over 43,000 courses worldwide (subscription required for virtual golf). You can also take the Approach R50 to the course and see how you're performing thanks to its built-in battery and 10" color touch display. It's not all you need to perfect your game, but it comes pretty darn close.

10" color touchscreen with HDMI output

Golf launch monitors come in a variety of flavors, but you're not going to find many with a gorgeous 10" color touchscreen like the Approach R50. The display lets you view shot data, check out impact videos, and play virtual courses, with high-definition images that make things easy on your eyes. You can use the Approach R50 by itself, but its HDMI output expands your possibilities by allowing connection to an external device. Plug in, and get the big picture of courses and your swing action on a TV monitor or projector screen in the best resolution possible.

Built-in cameras for high-speed impact videos

Most launch monitors require you to set your smartphone or tablet in a specific spot nearby to utilize video help, but the Approach R50's three built-in high-speed cameras let you keep your phone in your pocket. The R50 records high-speed impact videos for immediate feedback on your swing without a separate device or app. You can associate each video with the metrics of that swing — you'll even see the metrics overlaid on the video for easier comprehension. This allows the R50 to be an all-in-one device for the range or at home.

Metrics you can count on

The Approach R50 lets you track over 15 important metrics for your swing, including club head speed, ball speed, ball spin, launch angle, launch direction, club face angle, smash factor, and more. Driving Range Mode lets you track stats for each club and shows a shot dispersion chart based on estimated ball flight. Garmin includes 250 club tracking stickers with the Approach R50, so you can outfit and get practice with your entire club arsenal.

Connect with the Garmin Golf app

The Garmin Golf app is where you see all your data recorded by the Approach R50, in easy-to-follow formats that can be configured to fit your needs. The app keeps track of your performance in a number of ways so you can see where you need more work and where you're improving. You can pull up old games, or keep up with weekly leaderboards by uploading scorecards. You can even create your own tournaments and invite friends. You can also store video clips of your shots in the cloud and view them at your leisure.

The Golf app is free to download and most of the features don't require an in-app purchase, but it also offers a premium membership level which gives you even more functionality. With your premium Garmin Golf app paid subscription, you and your friends can access Garmin's Home Tee Hero to play virtual rounds on your home course or any of the 43,000 courses available around the world, and participate in a weekly tournament with a global leaderboard.

Play nearly anywhere

The Approach R50 comes with a rechargeable battery with up to 4 hours of life between charges so it's ready for marathon practice sessions. It also includes a convenient carry case so you can transport it from the house to the range and back again with ease. A built-in barometer helps provide more accurate carry distances based on your location. And inclement weather won't stop your practice, thanks to the R50's IPX3 water-resistant rating.
