MartinLogan Motion® XT B100

A versatile Motion XT bookshelf speaker

The MartinLogan Motion XT B100 delivers accurate, detailed sound that's equally effective when you use a pair as front left/right speakers, or as surrounds in a Motion XT home theater system. Like the other speakers in the lineup, it features carefully chosen drivers, an acoustically optimized cabinet, and intelligently designed crossovers. The company calls this their best bookshelf speaker, so you can expect accurate, musical detail.

Upgraded Motion XT® tweeter

MartinLogan's acclaimed Folded Motion XT tweeter uses a pleated diaphragm that works similarly to an accordion by "squeezing" air to create sound. The B100's upgraded Gen2 Obsidian version of this tweeter uses larger magnets for greater detail and accuracy. The new design places it inside a custom Folded Motion waveguide that enhances dispersion of high-frequency sound throughout your listening area. 

Because it requires almost 90% less excursion than the typical 1" dome tweeter, response time is drastically reduced along with distortion. The diaphragm's increased surface area also provides wide, yet controlled sound dispersion to create a realistic and highly accurate soundstage. Music sounds amazingly detailed, but smooth and effortless, without a trace of harshness. And the "XT" version of this tweeter that gives the Motion XT series part of its name boasts a 40% larger radiating surface area than MartinLogan's standard Folded Motion design, for even greater bandwidth and efficiency.

Accurate midrange and impactful bass

The B100 boasts a 6-1/2" Nomex-reinforced Kevlar® cone woofer for fast, clean mid/bass performance. The cabinet's rear-firing port helps deliver impactful low end that enhances your experience with music, movies, and gaming.

Matching stands are a must-have for hi-fi performance

Placing the B100s on a solid set of speaker stands can minimize sound-muddying vibrations and allow them to perform as designed. Specifically, we recommend using the matching MartinLogan STAND25 so the speakers will fit on the top plates properly and the tweeters will be placed at approximately the same height as your ears, for the best possible sound.

Placement tip: because the B100s are rear-ported, they'll sound better if you can position them with a little extra space between them and the wall.

Unique crossover network

MartinLogan's proprietary Vojtko™ crossovers are named after MartinLogan's chief audio technologist, Joe Vojtko. The latest Motion XT speakers feature upgraded McCracken-Vojtko crossovers, so named for the influence of the company's other well-known Joe — senior loudspeaker designer Joe McCracken.

No matter what they're called, the aim is always the same: each speaker's drivers are carefully selected or designed to operate within an intentional frequency range and specific performance parameters. That allows the crossover networks — built from high-quality capacitors and resistors — to be clean and uncomplicated, for purer sound.
