The Alpha XL's generous 10.1" touchscreen display gives you an easy-on-the-eyes view and so much more. It features Garmin's brightest backlight yet, so you're sure to see the maps in the harshest of sunlight. It's also truly high definition, with a resolution of 800 pixels, for a crisp and clear view of maps, dog info, and more. The screen works in landscape or portrait mode, so you can change up your view depending on your mood. Multi-touch control lets you zoom the maps in or out with your fingers for a better view, and it's glove-friendly for cold days in the field. This Garmin's also compatible with the Garmin BC 50 wireless rear-view camera (not included), so you can see more of where you're going when you're in a tight spot. The included mounting gear works with select RAM mounts for your trailblazing adventures.

Includes a powered VHF mount with wireless connection

The Alpha XL's included VHF mount and external magnetic antenna keeps you in touch with your sporting dogs. You can use the Alpha XL for tracking and training your dogs even when it's not directly attached to the VHF mount. Simply keep the navigator within 10 feet of the mount and you can use it for up to two hours.

Garmin's Alpha smartphone app lets you track your dog's movements, drop waypoints, navigate, and more during the hunt — all on your smartphone or tablet. It even lets you configure your devices and save hunt data easily. You can do this for up to 20 dogs, and you can see both LTE and VHF signals on one device.

See how your dogs perform while hunting

The Alpha XL comes with a barometric altimeter and 3-axis electronic compass to help you keep your bearings. Built-in hunt metrics let you track each dog's performance over time, so you can adjust their training and keep them from overheating. The pro view compass mode gives you at-a-glance tracking that shows which direction and how far away your dogs are. You can even see if they are sitting, running, treed, or on point.

Direct pairing with dog collars for maximum convenience

The Alpha XL can track and train up to 20 dogs, and it offers direct pairing with compatible Garmin collars so you won't waste time getting the hunt going. Add dual-purpose Alpha TT 25 collars if you need to be able to remotely communicate with the whole pack. It allows you to train your dog with audible tone and vibration settings. Or, choose to administer momentary or continuous stimulation using the Alpha's touchscreen.

Customize the intensity by choosing between traditional or linear stimulation. The device defaults to linear stimulation which provides progressively more stimulation from levels 1 to 18. You can also choose the traditional method which allows you to make quick changes (low, medium, or high) within a predetermined level (1 to 6).

Or, if you only need to track your dog, you can use the Alpha XL with an Alpha T 20 collar — a great option for field trials and competitions that don't allow stimulation.

Narrow your focus with Channel View

When dealing with a bevy of barkers, the new Channel View feature is extra helpful. It helps you monitor the concentration of collars in the area, so you can select less congested channels to avoid interference. The handheld offers a dog list and group management functions so you can keep up with active dogs on your expeditions without losing the settings for inactive dogs. Store up to 250 dogs as contacts and pull them up easily on your next hunt.

Maps for all occasions

This Garmin comes pre-loaded with street maps for North America and highly accurate TopoActive maps that cover the U.S.. For a sharper look, enjoy access to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery for a real-life view of roads, building, and terrain. You can get access to even more detailed information via your optional Garmin Outdoor Maps+ subscription. The Alpha XL comes with 64GB internal memory, plus a microSD™ card slot so you can add even more maps.

Optional Garmin Outdoor Maps+

Add a subscription to Garmin's Outdoor Maps+ service and you'll have access to public land information, enhanced topographic maps, landowner names, and more. Updates come straight to your Alpha via Wi-Fi.

Guidance for all kinds of vehicles

Whether you're driving a car, truck, RV, ATV, UTV, or motorcycle, Garmin's got you covered. The Alpha XL comes ready to lead the way through on- and off-road adventures, and offers many of the unique vehicle-specific features found in their specialized portable navigators for RVs and motorcycles. Choose your vehicle profile when setting up the Alpha XL and enter the vehicle information requested. The Alpha XL will take those measurements into account when planning your routes. You can even select Adventurous Routing that'll take you on routes featuring more hills and winding roads.

Use your voice

You can use voice commands to input addresses and set destinations without ever touching the screen. A human-sounding voice will reply and provide helpful instructions using landmarks, buildings, and traffic signals.

Compatible with Garmin inReach® communication devices

The Alpha XL works with devices in Garmin's inReach satellite communicator family, so you can use the navigator to send SOS distress signals even in the most remote areas. You can also use the Alpha XL's keyboard to compose two-way text messages to others, letting your friends and family know how you're doing. Garmin inReach devices and subscription plans are sold separately.

Built-in Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth®

Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity means you no longer have to connect the device to your computer when it's time for a map or software update. When connected to Wi-Fi, the device will automatically check for available updates. Built-in Bluetooth allows your Alpha XL to pair easily with other devices, including your smartphone running any number of handy Garmin apps.
