Make all your rides safer

Sometimes, I take my road bike for a long ride on Virginia's Blue Ridge Parkway. Other times, I'll grab my trusty touring bike for a multiday trip or a commute to work. But whatever riding I do, I'm sure to take the Garmin Varia RCT715 along. This sophisticated safety tool records and saves rear-view video with its high-definition camera, boasts a bright tail light, and has an integrated radar sensor that sends information about approaching traffic to compatible Garmin Edge cycling computers, Garmin fitness watches, or smartphones equipped with Garmin's Varia app. I ride safer and know that I'll have a record of any bad behavior by inconsiderate motorists.

An extra set of eyes

The RCT715's rear-view camera sees and records what's behind you in high-definition resolution. The autosave function automatically saves footage when it detects an incident. And since a 16 GB SD™ card is included, it's ready to use right out of the box. You can even set the camera to turn on automatically when the radar detects an oncoming vehicle — a great way to preserve battery during long rides.

Alert drivers

Safety is a two-way street, of course. The RCT715's bright tail light can be seen from up to a mile away during the day, which makes you more visible to drivers. You can choose from solid or flashing modes or even the peloton mode, a low-intensity flash that's great when you're riding with a group.

Visual information

When vehicles approach from behind, the RCT715's radar kicks in, and an overlay display appears on the screen of your computer or watch. The RTC715 tracks multiple cars from up to 153 yards away (about 1.5 football fields), displaying the relative position of each with a dot on the display.

Varia mobile app

You can easily control all of these functions from your smartphone by downloading the Varia mobile app. It displays radar info, lets you review camera footage, and puts camera control right at your fingertips.
